I parked in lay by opposite Hurst Lane (TQ203552). Hidden in bracken, tricky to locate but had a good rummage. No clear visible paths when you get further into the wood.

Decided to bag this one on return from a trip to Twickenham Stoop rugby league. Quite a lot of effort required for a pillar that is not much more than 100 metres from the highway and at a modest elevation. Stout footwear/old clothes advisable. Pillar is not apparent until you almost trip over it ! For parking refer to trigangel's advice.

To find this, Park in the layby opposite Hurst Lane in Church Lane. Walk up footpath opposite Hurst Lane until it almost joins Church Lane again. Style on the right takes you into Oyster Hill Wood, sign indicates welcome, as long as you play nicely. Follow the path that quick goes in to bracken. Follow the well trodden path until you come to Holly trees on the left. Go between trees, or circle round, and the trig is on the right. Picture taaken in March.

This was the first outing with my Satmap Active 10 GPS. I have waited a long time for a device like this and it is fantastic , proper O/S maps at Landranger or Explorer scales. The photo that shows my route is the Landranger 1.50000 scale. Anyway without my GPS I am not sure that I would have found this one as it was in a very dense thicket with no obvious paths. The gate through which I entered told me it was Nower Wood nature reserve and unauthorised persons should not enter. Despite this I took a chance as no-one was around. Once I had located the Trig it was in good condition with a blank Spider centre. The woods hinder views in every direction. The O/S website lists the computing year as 1945 and the height a/s/l as 186.88 metres (613.12 feet).
