Last Trig of the day. Nice to see bike parking just outside the reception of school. I went in and asked if I could look at their trig. After having to explain what a trig was to the lady there, a couple of friendly Site Managers (Janitors in my day) showed me to the Trig. A very average Trig. Next to a fence near Rail line. Still, now to get back to the car. Ten Trigs in only 34miles today. And not too hilly!

mistake to try and get along northern railway embankment to this one. bramble nightmare. eventually realising it was just the other side of the fence I managed to clamber over fence into school playing fields and walked long way out via school entrance to get back to my car in Oakmount avenue.

Located against the SW perimeter fencing of Toynbee Secondary School. Access is possible along the railway embankment from Oakmount Rd. I parked on Oakmount Avenue, hopped over 2 easy wire fences that were looking a little sorry for themselves - if these are repaired access via this route will be much more difficult - then along fence-line at top of railway embankment - would be a lot more difficult in spring/summer due to vegetation. Although viewing Pillar through wire fencing, was able to cut back a lot of bramble that was growing from railway side, but no view of FB as facing NE into sports field. Original cap, raised lettering. Sight holes undetermined. No views, other than across sports field to school bldgs.

Wasn't sure of finding/access from OS map. However, I was cycling past the end of the road on the A335 and so I thought it worth a look. It is visible at the edge of the school fields but not readily accessible due to very high fence. I think an enquiry on a schoolday would be neccessary to gain access.

I had a late morning change of plan and chose to tig this pillar & nearby Hicknor Hill without being able to consult this website. I opted to approach through the railway embankment as I couldnt see the trig from the school field perimiter (which has an 8ft high fence). The embankment fence is climbable but what a fiasco. If you come this way come in jeans - I was in shorts and you honestly dont want to see the state of my legs! The brambles are everywhere. Come prepared with gloves and secaturs and make your life easier. Because of the brambles I couldnt physically tig the trig but settled for a poke with a long branch. Its actually in the school grounds. NCOF.

Had to do this the hard way didn't I? Approached this trigpoint via the railside wooded area which necessitated climbling over several difficult fences and brushing through huge brambles: a real obstacle course, but thankfully no one around to witness my Herculean efforts. I suppose I should have asked at the school, but they might have said 'no' - much more 'fun' doing it my way!

Well, I'm a single man, balding, carrying a digital camera and this is a school playing field with the kids out playing football. I could see the trig, but felt I shouldn't skulk about for long enough to get there. The route along the railway line seems fenced off now anyway.

I paid for this photo in blood!
