I was struggling along last weekend to Stow-on-the-Wold after two weeks off the bike on a canal boat holiday. However, I was feeling better on an afternoon ride yesterday after a two day rest and decided to get away for a night before voluntary work on Saturday. A westward pedal saw me at a nice garden centre tea room at Ellerdine for lunch, and perusing the map, I decided a visit here was possible, before a more SE ride to near Bishop's Castle. Found unsigned footpath from South at end of Elgar Drive. Gravelled path took me directly to pillar. Could have continued down to North or to SW. Isolated high point with views restricted by surrounding trees. Large recess on FB side of pillar near top.
