Parked in field entrance to SW, at bend in road. Followed field boundaries. Gamekeeper drove up the field after me; all friendly, just inquisitive. Pillar sits on SW side of post & wire fencing with FB facing fencing. Original centre cap retained, deeply indented lettering; RHD side sight hole seal degrading, other 3 below ground level. Uninspiring farmland views.

My second visit. Thoroughly lousy weather today for my first day off in a fortnight, so I had to assuage my craving for Trig Points by revisiting some of the less interesting ones around Kelso. Nothing new to report here.

Parked at open gate and short walk through field. Walk beyond the clump of bushes before crossing the fence as it's nice and low next to the big tree.

From Road to SW

Sixth and final TP of the day, and the fourth one in a hedgerow. Easy to find and get to at this time of year. Lovely view to the NW taking in Eildon, Black Hill and Smailholm. Looking forward to Black Hill in the near future.

Crops up to the edge of the field almost defeated me. However there is an unmapped track along the western field boundary from the south west which gives easy access to the end of the boundary the trig is in.Then there is fun with head high grass along the field margin!

Walked along the edge of a crop field then found ourselves on the wrong side of an electric fence when we reached the trig, d'oh!

At last. After numerous visits the fields to the east of the pillar have finally been harvested and on the visit already being ploughed. Followed the field boundary from the Roxburgh road to the west (still with oat crop in place). OK views.

Somewhat overgrown but easily accessible as one of the fields between the trig and road had been harvested. One best left until after August.

Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS cap with deep indented lettering. Back sight hole open, others plugged. Flush bracket faces 214°, SW through fence. Historically tertiary station NT72/T77. Completed 15th May 1953. Views to Peniel Heugh, Eildon Mid Hill, Smailholm, Cheviot. Revisited and photographed 9/04/2008, GRP.

So overgrown was this trig that walking along the fenceline you couldn't see it from 25m away! Got soaked again but compensated for by seeing a deer in the adjacent cornfield.

First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed 15th May 1953 costing £17.11s.0d. In 1955, flush bracket S7434 was levelled for height. This marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NT72/T77 in the Jedburgh secondary block during 1957, and was last maintained by the OS in September 1986. On the edge of a ploughed field.
