HISTORY: Pillar built in November 1937, exact cost and date not on record. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SJ82/T13 during 1948. Levelled for height to Class 1 tertiary standards in 1966. This pillar was recorded by the OS as destroyed in November 1990. SITE VISIT: This pillar was rescued from its original location which was excavated for road building. It was rediscovered at it new location by Ted Allwood in August 2005. It is now located outside business premises, south side of Lythwood Road, Bayston Hill, OSGB Grid Ref SJ481087. Open access. Pillar maintained in good condition with recent coat of white paint. Spider retains original centre cap with shallow engraved lettering. Flush bracket now faces north, compass measurement 350. Vented through east and west sight holes. As this pillar is between buildings, there is no view or line of sight elsewhere.

I just wanted to log my visit of the original site. Obviously the trig is no longer here but in Bayston Hill. It was nice to see where it was before going to where it is! Whilst I was here, I took some photos of the shropshire way. Not only did the construction of the road destroy the top,of the hill and take the trig point with it, it also cut across the Shropshire way. This leaves the footpath crossing a busy dual carriageway - madness! If you do visit this site, I suggest not crossing the A5 on foot.

It's that way Nice to visit the hilltop. No pillar.

Given it's original location would have guessed the reasons behind this being so far from there, which previous logger has confirmed - tks KS. In good condition with original cap, lightly indented lettering; L & RHD sight holes open. Dirty, flaking coat of white paint. No views.

I've been meaning to visit this one ever since Ted Allwood found it about 18 months ago and I took the opportunity whilst I was in Telford on a bit of entirely unrelated business. The pillar is about 8 miles from its original site and is certainly being well cared for. Access is easy and I encountered nobody at all during the 10 minutes or so that I was there.
