Parked in a convenient layby at nt674204.Followed the Jedburgh Circular Route north along a hedgerow. A pasture field today full of sheep, thank goodness. Continued through another small gate and followed the gorse bush line eastward to another gate. This gate is not fastened. Walked through and there it is huddled within the gorse. Easier than expected. Spider is intact. This pillar has great views across to Carter Bar.

Followed town circular trail from Howden trig, great walk but a couple of wet bits. Quick jump over fence from path to trig. Border gorse toughest I've found so far, fortunately trig free of greenery. Drivers can get space on minor road directly south.

Me! Say hi if you meet me on the hills.

Follow the Jedburgh circular path from the south and then along the line of gorse to the summit. The pillar is in the densest bit. At least the vegetation is protecting the pillar from the attention of the cows.

Access to the spot is easy, thanks to a clear footpath - but when you get there, finding the pillar is another matter as it's totally swamped by gorse. When you do find it, inspecting it can be a painful business! The plug is original with deeply indented letters. No real paint. Sight holes appear closed. Good luck!!
