Easy access through a ‘gate’ in the corner of the field. Good views.

Parked by the houses on the rough verge. Followed the track to the start of the field, over the fence and up to the trig.

My second visit, different route. Parked N of the TP on Healeyfield Lane at Spot Height 234 and followed tarmacked track (spotting a CBM on a gatepost) round the farm then rough track to 'Palmers Bridge' where the ROW crosses the Waskerley Way. Past this point the track was an absolute quagmire, deeply rutted with vehicle tracks and with more mud than the 2016 Glastonbury Festival. I can only advise that if approaching Oxen Law from the N you either (a) wait until a prolonged period of drought has been declared or (b) go equipped with the best pair of wellies money can buy (I can vouch for 'Grub Frostline' boots, well up to the job today). Good views on a lovely clear day.

15/08/19 Quick walk from the cottages and up the field edge. Getting the dogs over the fence was the most interesting part of exercise! Decent views in most directions. 02/07/19 - Wretched luck, the farmer was in the field the TP is in harvesting the hay. Viewed from afar..another time!

Some barbed wire and a barking dog in the farm yard. Trig positioned next to junction of two fences. Deeper than normal platform base. Lovely views.

Approached (cycled) from Salter's gate. Pillar, which stands on a large plinth, has a fairly rough surface finish & two minor chips. Spider has OS metal cap. Spacious views - The Cheviot can be seen. No Oxen today.

Manage to drive to Bee Cottage B+B and park on edge of road.The lane heading north was full of drifted snow but passable with one fence to cross on lefthand side to get to top of hill. and trig.

6th pillar for today. Accessed from byway to East. Wide all round views. Arrived by road from East and able to leave by track to West to join Waskerley Way cycle track on old railway line, and to YHA at Emundbyers.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 27th June 1947 costing £6.8s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NZ29/40 within the Newcastle block during 1947. Recomputed as same in 1984. Levelled for height in 1957. Last maintained by the OS in June 1971. SITE VISIT: Parked on wide east verge of north leg of junction at NZ071453. Followed mapped tracks then along edges of fields. Pillar on north side of fence, completed 27th June 1947 costing £6.8s.0d, still in good condition. Must have had a serious erosion problem given the substantial briezeblock foundation added around the base of the pillar. Spider has replacement OS centre cap with raised larger narrow letters. Flush bracket faces 350° (N). Vented through east sight hole. 360° panoramic view.

Outside the open access land so a bit trespassy. However its only a quick wander up the fence line from the track to the east. Nice views all around.

Plug with raised lettering; one sighting hole open. A few butterflies about but none of the scarcer species suggested by the notice board at roadside disused quarry to S.

We went hunting with the weardale beagles here, they were on a great run and then we dident want to be on the other sid of the red house farm oad. it was a great day, an inch of snow covered the hills, makeing stunning scenery!
