Cool and sunny. Parked at wind-farm road end to NE. Track to double gates to access field then uphill to summit cairn. Then across to fence line which is followed to Paige Hill trig.

Can be seen from the M74 and old A74 (B7078). Parked at the entrance to the former Scottish coal conveyor at Mid Rig and slogged straight to the pillar across open moorland which was boggy in places. Best choose a dry day for this one, good views though.

Damaged pillar with chunks missing in places. The concrete facing has spalled off virtually all round too giving the pillar a bit of a weathered/diseased look. FB faces east-ish with the east-ish/south-ish sightholes open. Cap present with sunken lettering. Good views all round despite it being a fairly non-prominent summit. Easy access up the mapped track from the north. Watch out for the "Olympic 490m bull sprint" section!

Visited twice in one day. Foggy in the morning and hazy sunset at 18:25. Bottom of pillar has been badly eroded by livestock and has been extensively repaired some time ago. The repairs are begining to separate from the original material and will eventually fall off. Spider retains OS cap with shallow engraved lettering. Front and left sighting holes open. FB faces ENE. On open moorland, west side of fence. Views include Robert Law, Tinto, Dungavel East, Cairn Table and Common Hill. Secondary station in Block NS83, built 18th May 1949. Photographed on both visits of 14/10/2006, GRP.
