Approached from west, uphill from main road by railway line. After about a mile at T junction, couldn’t see where car park was, turned north, should have turned south. Slight detour to find somewhere to turn around. Car park about 100 metres south of T junction. Walked back along side of road to steep driveway to Roman Station and stables. Various buildings about and a mast to the north, expected to and about to ask someone if I could go to the pillar but it was actually beside the right hand gate post with a stone horse head on top. Build up of earth below FB but fortunately not covering the number. Limited views to south. Spider and cap in place, had to look under the stone to check. Didn’t see anyone. Note, condition changed to moved, would explain why it is not on the highest point in the area.

I've been here before but for some reason had never logged it. Today this trig was the inspiration for a 6-mile walk around Stoke Hill in reasonable weather but with sodden ground underfoot. There are some great views to the North in particular, and some very dingly dells to be experienced from the surrounding footpaths. Trig still sits at the entrance to the Riding School which now also has a cafe called "Tasty Bits"....geddit!

Had high hopes for a trig with such a name - all unfounded! I actually walked right past the pillar on entering Hilltop Riding School - in my defence, it was well camouflaged with a horses head sitting on top! Yes, this pillar no longer sits at its once, presumably, panoramic position but has been moved to RHD side of field gate at riding school entrance - you really can't miss it (unless the horses head is still there). Looks to be in good condition; original cap in place, lightly indented lettering; front sight hole open. Good views SW to Dartmoor.
