A walk that was a mixed bag due to poor condition of the path, some fly-tipping and a rather strange road that has just been bulldozed through the woodland... and some of the long-established paths. The area immediately around the trig point is lovely though, and on a clear day the views must be beautiful.

Parked on Ohare street, crossed the bridge and followed a good track to a stile. About 1/4 mile over the stile, should have turned right, then left at a further 500 feet, but we carried on and had to bushwhack our way through trees. Great views of Loch Lomond from the trig.

Second visit. For GPS reading and photographs. SITE VISIT: Approached from west. Parked in residential street, O'Hare at NS401795. Walkway over bridge leads to path which follows burn all the way up into Nobleston Woods, then just a case of keeping to the correct path for the summit. Pillar in fair condition, urban wear and tear showing. Spider centre had tar plug which is now broken open with centre pipe blocked with debris. Flush bracket faces NE, ~56°. All four horizonal sight holes open, innards blocked with debris. 225° panoramic view from SE clockwise through west to north. Aspects to NE and east blocked by high conifers.

More than slight damage in my view.. Cap missing, Spider almost whittled out with all top corners knocked off. The sights are open but the whitewashing can't keep pace with the graffiti - a very well organised campfire was in the bowl immediately South of the pillar. Route-wise, I miss-read the previous directions so it should be "swing a right" at Descartes co-ords, hop a wee stream, then swing left/Eastwards again at around NS4158480010. No ferns but a twisted ankle and a few gorsefires just after school coming out on my route back down. Smashing 270degree views from Ben to Loch, Clyde and Rock... I always add a point to any trig that I can see my house from! ;-)

Damaged pillar (slightly damaged?) above Bonhill. FB faces east-ish with all sightholes open but internally blocked. Damage to the top with what looks like an attempt to remove the spider. Not any worse than in peregrinus' pic. Trig is now white (with new graffiti!). There's some carved graffiti on there as well as the scribbled stuff. Still plenty of empties in evidence so still a popular ned hangout. Views are pretty decent but hemmed in due to the trees. Directions....this one was a total pig! The 1:25k map seems a bit out of date...the best approach road is from the entrance to the Pappert Well Community Woodland at NS4014779576. This goes over a small bridge then heads east. Follow this over a black stile then onto a metalled path until NS4151680172 where there's a very faint path leading off the metalled path. Follow that and it leads straight to the trig. I went another way and ended up wading through the bog for the whole way. Only found the path on the way back! The path is much easier but if it's been raining, the chest-high ferns will soak you in seconds...

No litter was apparent today. It must have been covered with snow. Trees to the north and east negatively impact what would otherwise be a tremendous viewpoint. Graffiti on the trig. Came up from the west and left along the dyke outlined below but was completely unaware of the presence of the landfill.

Litter probably comes from evil-smelling landfill site to the north. This can be avoided by starting from track next to Auchencarroch, but then heading off to the left through a gate at the first bend, and round east side of small rise. You'll still smell it, but at least you won't see it. Not hard to find trig in tress though - a dyke from rise at ns828803 leads into a narrow ride which goes straight there.
