Out at 04:45am intent on an eight trig 'bag' & with it completion of the Whitehaven & Workington OS 303 map. Parkhouse, Standing Stones, Barrowmouth Wood, Stanley, Ravelsaye, Summer Grove, Harnsey Moss & Haile, a tough undertaking post a 283 mile drive with an 11 & a half hour stop-out...For Parkhouse parked at the 'fanned-out' entrance of West Coast Kennels GR 99722 23861 & climbing the gate, proceeded down the lane to take a right over a second gate. For Standing Stones parked in the lay-by at the front of Whitehaven Golf Club & accessed the trig thro' the gap in the wall. For Barrowmouth Wood parked roadside at GR 96489 14844 & from a short road walk North accessed the PROW up onto the trig. For Stanley lay-by parked to the side of the farm entrance on the B5345 at GR 97512 14306. Taking a short road walk South, a 'begging to be steppped thro' gap in the hedge at GR 97511 14073 'puts' you alongside the hedge 'housing' the trig but a short distance away. For Ravelsaye parked just off-road before the bridge at GR 98850 09803 & post a short road walk South-East, going thro' a gate on the left, walked around the field edges to access the hedge 'housing' the trig. Try as I did, I just couldn't find this trig, in close proximity both sides according to the Etrex numbers. The hedge was so dense, the vegetation so tightly intermingled, the spiky stuff so ferocious as to entomb the trig & prevent any 'hands-in' access on my part. For Summer Grove, the trig I anticipated having most trouble in finding, parked to the left of the access lane at GR 00214 15252 & climbing the gate, followed the lane up into the undergrowth to locate the trig hidden somewhat but sufficiently exposed on one side to find using Etrex numbers relatively easily. For Harnsey Moss parked at the passing-place cum lay-by at GR 99856 06816 & post short road walk North-West, climbing up the low embankment & over the low hedge, proceeded around the Southern-side of Silver Tarn up onto the trig. And finally for Haile parking to the side of the 'mine-lane' at GR 04140 08975 a short walk bearing left soon took me to the trig...Despite a 7 trig 'bag' upping my personal 'trig-pot' to 687, all I can 'see' is the negative in failing to 'bag' Ravelsaye! Not like it really matters in the grand scheme of things, ther'll be thousands of trigs i'll never see & no doubt others I likewise won't find but still I hate being defeated...it's personal trig & me!

Parked up at the entrance to Parkhouse Farm and walked up the farm road / footpath. Just past the apex of the bend where three fields meet, hopped over the small makeshift fence barrier into the middle one and walked the short distance to the pillar. Field was very wet but pillar sat very proud on its concrete plinth. Nice views over the snow capped western fells of Lakeland and northwards along the coast to Workington.
