The first of a Hertfordshire trio. An easy walk from Welham Green this pillar has a large gash on one side. Nevertheless a nice aspect in open grassland.

First of two bagged near A1 on way home after family holiday. A welcome break from driving and lovely weather so the whole family came out to bag this one. Parked in cemetery and accessed the fields via the PROW (restricted byway). There is a clearly worn footpath that goes directly to the trig, but deviates from the mapped route of the PROW. Watch out for dog poo, clearly a popular area for exercising mans best friend. Three empty drinks cans and one empty beer bottle next to trig carried back and binned. Itchy.

Parked in cemetery car park. RoW to the trig which is sited approx 10m W of the path. Top cap is missing, no plug; all sight holes open. Some damage to one top edge leaving the spider arm exposed; chipping to another top edge. Views to SW. Road noise from A1(M) intrusive.

Broken concrete at N leg of spider. Surprisingly leafy rural views. Met couple writing an article on the local history of the area who had come to photograph the trig point.

Along former lane from Welham Green - through route severed by Motorway - passed gate and now muddy. Followed footpath up from point where lane is crossed by powerlines.

I Parked in Pooleys Lane to the to the East (ish) then along farm track past stables and then along grotty fly tip footpath over to pillar, slightly damaged with a small lump out of the top (looks if an attempt has been made on the Spider?) - average views, bit too urban for my liking.

For this one, I parked in the residential area north of the pillar and followed the footpath up the hill. The pillar had had the centre plug removed and it looks like someone has, at some point in the past, made a start on removing the spider. Other than that, the pillar is structurally sound. The views are OK... west probably being the best aspect.

Parked by gated road to the south of trig & short walk from there. Trig slightly damaged as previously logged with some defacing of the face plates number to go along with the exposed spider end & missing cap

Parked on estate to N and then followed bridleway/footpath to TP. Slightly non descript location but rural wooded views to W. Stark dead tree - hit by lightning ? - by TP. Plug missing and an attempt has been made on spider - all rings gone. Cuckoo, woodpecker, chiffchaff (willow warbler ?), and larks all singing on another lovely spring morning.
