Quite a straightforward route up to this one. Parked just off the narrow road between Leightnie and Tillyarblet, and took the sheep-track around the side of Berry Cairn, then cut across to Peat Hill through the heather to reach the trig in about 45 minutes. Cap remains in place with deep lettering, and all four sight-holes open.

Second visit. For photographs and GPS measurement. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from east. Parked in pen beside sheepwash (NO519673) as kindly suggested by Gus at the adjacent house, he knows the shepherd who had done his work for the day. Followed mapped track SW for 300m to gate then up mapped intermittent path to bealach between Berry Cairn and Peat Hill. From there, a recently constructed estate track runs all the way to the top and beyond. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep stamped letters. Flush bracket faces ESE, ~111. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. Full 360 panoramic view.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 22nd April 1950 costing 16.3s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NO89/35 within the Aberdeen block during 1950. Levelled for height also in 1950. Last maintained by the OS in May 1986. SITE VISIT: Trig pillar in good condition, spider retains OS plug with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces east. Although not apparent in the picture, horizontal rain was coming from the west. This would have made photographing of the east side of the pillar where the FB is, very difficult. The pillar is photographed from the south. Photographed 24/05/2000, GRP.
