Walked via Carlock hill and up and over 3 or 4 other hills until reaching trig. Tough walk through rough terrain. Spectacular views at summit.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 20th August 1954 costing £22.0s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NX29/17 in the Girvan block during 1955. Levelled for height value at top of pillar in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in May 1985. SITE VISIT: Parked at Mark (NPFB S8094) and followed the Ayrshire coastal path to high point and climbed SW slope. Pillar in good condition, built without flush bracket. Spider retains replacement OS centre cap with raised medium sized letters. 3 sight holes open, pillar bolt photographed, sight facing NW (~213°) still partly plugged. 360° panorama from top.

vgc, metal cap, small raised letters. Built without FB. Heather moorland, fine albeit misty view. SE lower slope a tasteful blend of 6ft bracken & bramble, with belt of hawthorn & gorse. Better in March I guess.
