Good condition FBM inside playpen in the middle of a field. Fortunately, the field was being harvested and I go there an hour after the FBM area had been cleared. Playpen is very overgrown. Height tag still present.

2nd time lucky for this one, surrounded in tall crops last time, all harvested now. easily located FBM in playpen a few meters into field, looks to be on good condition. I parked by Quebec bolt and walked along the by-way it can be driven, head into the field by the large barn.

Followed the tractor tracks so no crop damage. Had to flatten the nettles in order to see it.

My second attempt at this one. Some years ago, one high summer, the field's oil seed rape was towering with triffid-like menace high above me with no chance of spotting the FBM on that occasion. Today, it was an easy stroll across the stubbles to find the FBM within its cage - the height tag (577.53 ft) remains in place.

Walked up from Quebec bolt to the barn. Into the field at the large new gate, followed tractor tracks nearly all the way to the pen, just the last few yards a hop and jump. Stinging nettles are almost taller than the FBM, they will hopefully make a good snack bar for caterpillars later in the season.

I did think it would be easy just to cycle along the army road to the next trig point but big signs told me i wasnt welcome so I ended up on the A36 and then the A390. Not that much fun with rush hour traffic. I was glad to go off the road and onto the Farmers track. Quick hop over the barbwire and I walked along tractor paths to FMB. I assume it is under all those nettles but didnt fancy trying to clear it.

I parked at the northern end of the byway and strolled to the cache. A tractor was working nearby that turned out to be the farmer and landowner. He was more than happy for me to walk to the playpen as long as I stuck to the tractor marks in the crop. Great views, particularly to the north. The top block and ID plate were unfortunately hidden by some mean looking nettles and I had no bashing implement with me so decided it best to not try to clear them. All seems to be in good order and the farmer is aware of his asset and quite proud of it.

After finding the bolt at the bottom of the road we drove up track to barn and it was short walk from here. Field a little muddy and we followed the field edge on the way back which was much easier.

Parked at Ansty Hill at start of track to Quebec Farm (where the Quebec Bolt is located). Walked S along byway to barn then cut across the field. No crop planted, but recently been mud-spread. FBM protected on all sides by railings approx 4ft high. Still has height tag displaying 577.53 ft above sea level. Good views N to Salisbury Plain, otherwise restricted by trees.

Returned here from Quebec.Railings visible in the middle of the crop but no obvious way to access them via tractor tracks so decided to leave it until after harvest.Back to the car at Codford St Mary on what turned out to be a very pleasant if slightly frustating 9 1/2 mile round trip.

Drove up (rough) byway from N, parked at barn, followed careful bearing into arable field, but proved unnecessary as it has the standard railings, very obvious in middle of ploughed chalky field. Standard FBM marker pillar, vgc with OSBM & GPS plaque both on E face, height tag marked 577.53. Seems strange they didn't at least site it next to the byway.
