2/2 on a Boxing Day walk. Parked at the start of the forest track and easy walk up along PROW through an enchanting forest. Lovely location. Trig sits at highest point of hill, just out of the end of the forest. Nice farmer has put a gate for access. Trig used as a memorial. Amazing views over Ynysybwl. Trig is in good condition with spider and FB intact

Great spot and yes a steep climb at the end too. White washed and has walkers plates of remembrance on but again super views. Drove up as close as possible just beyond metal gates that were well held by undergrowth so no chance of being locked in. From there up stone track over stile and up farm track then off to the right to mast around outcrop until the hump appears on the right! You can't miss it! Heavily cracked around all sides at FB level and painted white making the FB numbers a little harder to see.

What a great valleys trig. There are a fair number in the valleys that are damaged or in not very nice surroundings so it was lovely to visit this well preserved pillar, painted white and with three plaques on it. Arrived by train in Abercynon and found my way through the steep roads into the wood and then up the windy tracks to the top and along the fenceline and just by the trig there is a gate, of sorts, meaning no need to climb over barbed wire.

From Aberdare Rd, as others. Bit of a mare getting there though as took the left fork between chichen runs - it's the right fork stupid! Made for some interesting scrambling though. Pillar sits in a sheep pasture, a few metres clear of the forest. It has 3 memorial plaques and sports a fetching white coat of paint, if a little overdue for another (and a cleaning off of the FB!). Cement plug replaces a missing top cap; front sight hole open. A horizontal fracture extends all 4 sides at FB level. Hill fog all day, no views.

We parked to the north west at the sharp bend on the little yellow road which leads to Gilfach-'rhydd. We followed the track south (plenty of evidence of fly-tipping unfortunately) and then headed up the the open pasture to the side of the wood and along to the trig. The 2 plaques that Saginanivalis mentions are quite interesting. Steve Price must have been a founder member of Cwm Clydach Ramblers Group, because he 'started the dream' and Margaret Williams must have been a keen member, because she 'continued the dream' or words to that effect. Excellent views from here, especially west to the large grassed over colliery spoil-heap above Wattstown. The spider is underneath the white painted top, with a tarmac/concrete plug presumably. We walked back through the forestry and then back up the road to the car. A very pleasant walk considering you are only a few miles from the rather dispiriting Cynon and Rhondda Valleys.

vgc, thickly painted white to the extent that metal cap or whatever is covering the hole on top, is unidentifiable. Two memorial plaques, attractive views. Easy access from N, along forest track then well-worn muddy unmapped path and stile to trig. Could leave the track earlier and take a gap thru trees for a more scenic drier cross-pasture alternative
