From the parking spot to the trig is 0.4 of a mile as the crow flies, yet it's the best part of 2 miles on foot such is the circuitous nature of the path to get there. No view, yet a curiously atmospheric location.

I'd planned a nice short route up this one mentioned by others on the hill-bagging website but when I met up with friends in Llanwrtyd they persuaded me to make a longer walk of it. It certainly went up hill and down dale but after we joined the helta-skelta type track and path near the to they listened to me and didn't venture into the dense trees instead stating on the path and circling around to the clearing and cain and trig at the top.

Easy walk up from SN 89092 50395 on wide forest road, longer than expected due to long zigzaging route not marked on my 1:25k map. Final leg circuitous on grassy path, but no trees to push through. Pillar found with patina of hair fractures but otherwise good. Original cap in place, lightly indented lettering; rear and LHD side sight holes open. Hill top clearing but conifer plantation of sufficient height to preclude any views. Nice quiet and remote spot though.

Parked at entrance to forestry, 400yds south of Bwlchmawr Farm. Forest Track takes you to less than 100yds south east of pillar. Those few yards require you to push through trees. Today it was misty and the trees were very wet.

Same approach at Sagina nivalis, from east on forest track.(approx SN892504 with good parking) This is not marked on OS but v clear on Satelite images, what is not clear is the fact that on these images it looks like clear fall but is in fact as previous visitor says 15ft conifers and densly packed. I had a couple of aborted atempts from due South of pillar with GPS showing approx 100m but didnt manage 20. Evenually retreated and followed track to the N of pillar location, there is a point off this track at SN88462 50344 where you only have about 15ft of trees to pass through to acess clearing. I wont make claims for accuracy of grid as the trees will start to interfere with readings as they get taller, but should be pretty close. Pilar had some views but these will disappear with time as the trees grow. Weather closing quickly so headed back same way. Pillar condition is good, low in the ground but guess has been protected by forest on and off over the years!

High score reflects the effort required! Attempted this Marilyn the previous evening, but unable to find trig in the murderous 15 foot high spruces. Returned armed with a ten figure GR, and approached from the other side of the hill. Eventually found the summit in a clearing with adjacent rock-piles. If you can find an easy way to do the last 100m to the trig (and to escape from it afterwards) you are a better man than I, Gunga Din!

Network of shallow cracks but fully intact. Metal cap, shallow letters. Nice summit with area of ancient cairns and fine view. Surrounded by densely planted young spruce: least painful way intoi the inner sanctum apparently from N of trig; to get there, follow edge of mature trees from SW or N. Google maps has excellent satellite coverage as of 2008: OS maps unhelpful. I approached from E: unmapped zig-zag track, then roundabout route.

At this time this was a challenging hill due to forestry. The summit was in a clearing, but the trick was to find the narrow path through the sitka to the clearing and its tumulus. A year later the summit area was felled. Now you will have to do battle with the next generation of nasty trees. Pillar in good condition. One of 4 marilyns in a post Royal Welsh evening.
