Opposite Nelson momunent, with good views out to sea. Pillar itself is in good condition, though the railings surrounding it are badly bent and the enclosure is heavily overgrown, needing vegetation removal to inspect the pillar closely. Pillar is early style without height indicator on top Bolt. It has a GPS PSD plaque, but no cast plate (which would normally be expected on an FBM) - subsequent research in OS records indicates that plaque had been buckled, and was removed during maintenance in 1969 - the implication in the note regarding this (a reference to "altitude plate") is that it was the earliest style of plate which included space for the height information.
