A lovely little rocky tor with a well-defined path leading to it through woodland off the SW Coastal Path. Nestling in gorse there are fine seascapes E, and also S over Oddicombe Bay. Pillar has not retained its original cap, there is an asphalt plug replacement. LHD sight hole closed, other 3 open. Quite precipitous. Continued on to the Easterfield pillar.

hmm, interesting approach this, from the front (approching from the end of the lane) it looks like there is no frontal path (more later), so off I scout round the north. Eventually find a path to bottom of small (almost)cliff, "ah yes that looks climbable", and indeed it was quite easily, but kept thinking wouldn't make a good decent. Luckuily once found the trig (good condition etc), saw that a reasonable path down the 'front', so using that found it a easier decent (even tho drew blood on thorns), but once down the path back to the main path was quite notorious, falling alway, overgrown, litter strawn (you don't want to know the type of litter!)... on to the next trig...

This pillar is still there, and you can see it, but you can't get to it without either a helicopter or rock-climbing gear. It rests on top of a limestone outcrop on the shore of Torbay. See photo. <p> Interestingly, at the foot of the outcrop, I found the item in the photo entitled "whats this?". It would seem to be a plinth of some kind, on which parhaps a trig pillar might have once stood. There were four bolts embedded in the plinth at what could have been the four corners of the base of a pillar. I wonder....

Distance shot ...climb that if you will!

But What is this? ...is it a former position of the pillar?
