Turned north west off A3026 at a dip in the road, took track for about two hundred metres, pulled over by gate into field with obvious hill to west. Over gate and uphill to clump of trees at the top. Looks as if it is used as a check point for exercises as there was a small tag attached to the top. No views at the time due to morning mist. Ruined look out post on the summit, looks like it’s used for gatherings of some sort. Why do people leave their litter behind? Spoils quite a pleasant location.

I am indebted once again to 21qazxsw, who has shown the easiest way to access this pillar. Parked at D on his map (second layby on the right down the concrete tank road) and hopped the stile opposite to get into the field. Field is steeper than I expected, but this gave me confidence I was heading in the right direction (i.e. up). Pillar still sits next to copse at the top of the hill; still has that mysterious bar across its FB; but has been robbed of any treasure that may once have been left in its front sighthole. Large herd of cows occupies this field; they were huddled en masse at the far end when I visited, but there is an abundance of evidence around the pillar to suggest that they may be trig enthusiasts, too...

This trig is visible from the A3026. Parked at the 'entrance' with concrete barriers on the S side of the A3026 (point 'A' on the attached satellite image), then walked through the woods. A 4-strand barbed wire fence had to be negotiated on leaving the woods, then it was straight up the hill to the trig. Remnants of a small concrete-block building were at the top of the hill. Trig was in good condition, centrecap missing, all sightholes open. I left a 2p coin in the front sighthole for the next visitor to find. There were 2 portaloos at point 'B', which is always handy to know! If you do not wish to negotiate the 4-strand barbed wire fence, there is parking at points 'C' and 'D' on Elden Rd, then just climb over a gate at 'C' or a stile at 'D'.

Parked on the south side of the A306 a short distance to the east of Tidworth at a small layby, the start of a prow with it's entrance protected by tank traps. Walked across the 306 and followed a wide newish tarmaced cycle track east then hopped the b/w fence at a convenient point and walked over rough pasture to Pickpit Hill. The trig is just east of the hill summit with views east to army infrastructure at Ludgershall. Trig is in good condition other than the centre cap which is missing; sight holes are all open; FB has a short horizontal metal bar fixed to it above the benchmark - its significance I know not (seen elsewhere only on the Fosbury trig).
