Parked at car park between Walbury Hill Fort and Pilot Hill. Two and a half hour walk to log three pillars near here. Followed footpath south east for about two kilometres. Great views to the north along the route although hazy at the time. The field where the pillar is was surrounded by cabbages which had gone to seed so were at head height. Expected an easy find but was a bit of a hunt and luck. Halfway between field boundaries on level ground. Views have been lost to the cabbages. Extra point for being at or near the county top.

The first of two pillars today with Beacon Camp in the afternoon, but scores a top three rating in the most difficult to find category. I searched in vain for 30 mins in exactly the right area, but was thwarted by a tall thicket of clumpy plants (possibly turnips) which screened the whole thing from view most effectively. Absolutely nothing to guide me so I found it more by luck than judgement. At least when I reached it, it was unobstructed and no hacking was required.

It had been raining very heavily for most part of the morning so by the time we drove to the area, a few of the local roads were flooded. We parked on a layby on a minor road to the SE of the trig, at the N end of Kydd's Copse if you're looking on the OS Explorer map. Then walked up Wayfarer's Walk (signposted "Charldown") heading NW. Due to the earlier torrential rain, Wayfarer's Walk was a complete mud-bath, at places it actually turned into a stream. Got to the field where the trig was situated in. No crops in the field at this time of the year, the field was completely waterlogged. No fence of any sort in between Wayfarer's Walk and the field, so very easy access. I imagine that in the summer when there will be crops in the field, visiting this trig will be a lot trickier. Trig was in very good condition, original metal cap with very lightly indented lettering, concrete base nearly completely exposed.

Room to park on the eastern side then simple climb up on the Wayfayreres way. Route is a bridleway so took the bike and saved some time. Trig is hidden by the curve of the slop so head off after the 8ft fencing taking care when crossing the electric fence. Potentially good views but bit cloudy today. Not sure on slight damage need to look at photos but this felat a good to me

This made an excellent stop on the way to Southampton from the Midlands. A sunny crisp cold day with snow on the ground.

Worth a visit, this is the highest point in Hampshire. It is easy to access this pillar, with a footpath that runs along the edge of the escarpment nearby.
