It took us 3 attempts to find this! The footpath and bridleway were too overgrown. We finally managed to get to it using the restricted byway near to Pen Lan house, and then cutting across along the field edge. Itís located in the hedge next to the remains of an old railway wagon.

Parked on grass verge at road bend. Followed minor road then bridleway which heads E and finally followed field boundaries from near the 155 spot height.

Parked on grass verge at bend in A479, junction with 2 minor roads. Minor road, then RoW, then field boundaries to trig, found partially buried in hedgerow. Cut away some thorn and bramble. Pillar retains the original top cap, lightly indented lettering; front and left sight holes sealed, RHD side open, rear not determined. Views in a narrow arc SW-NW only, all other directions obscured by hedgerows.

After a run of pillars out on open hilltops this was challenging! The signed footpath from the A4079 was seriously overgrown at the start and I started out from a field gate two houses to the West. Into a field being grazed by sheep, but felt a 45 degree slope! One fence to step over and followed the right hand side of the hedge at edge of crop. I thought it would be very difficult to spot in this overgrown hedge, but just before the remains of a rail goods wagon it is in view with the FB facing. Just a few huge nettles to crush for access.

Not the most visible of pillars being hedge bound and access needs some creativity. I parked to the west of the A479 and walked in passed Pen-lan hoping to follow a footpath for some of the way. This proved difficult to find and needed a fence straddling to get on to it. Then some more fences to cross when it came to leave it. The pillar is now ivy covered and well hidden in a hedge next to an old railway wagon. To get back I continued west to pick up the track from Tevithel. The pillar is actually in good condition and retains an original plug. Should be safe as long as the hedge remains. A nice location.

Access from west where bridleway leaves the minor road that departs the sharp bend on the A479 between Llyswen and Bronllys. Parking just before the main farm on the southern siverge currentl;y by a stack of bricks. Easy walk in be sure to keep to the south of the first arable field when you leave the bridleway though. Trig by hedge and becoming overgrown but in good shape. View slightly obscured by trees else it would collect a 7.
