You can drive up Coopers Lane - ignore the 'No parking in this area signs' and press on to the end and there are some parking places. One mile walk on good paths through woods and a bit of a hunt to find, but had worse. No views from trig, but good views further up, so may have had them before the trees grew.

Walked from Verwood up to the bowl barrow which is Stephen's Castle, through Boveridge Heath and up to Pistle Down to find this one hidden within the heather, gorse, and pine trees, with the rowan trees at their beautiful bright red- berried best. Pillar capless, but fine. Then carried on across Cranborne Common, and made my way back via Alderholt and Cripplestyle, noting the few remaining features of the long gone Salisbury & Dorset Junction Railway. A refreshing lemonade at the Albion Inn, its garden now extended across what used to be Verwood Station.

The pillar stands a few yards off a woodland track near the northern edge of Ringwood Forest. It is surrounded by some heather, gorse and brambles but is easily accessible from the nearby track. I walked to the site through the woods from the outskirts of Verwood in the south. The trig has FB S2568 and lacks a cap or plug. A couple of the top corners of the pillar are slightly chipped. The surrounding woodland prevents a view from the site. Dotty’s memorial bench and the gate at the edge of forest have a view to the north-east over lower heath and farmland. Stephen’s Castle near the start of my walk has a marvellous, wide view over woodland to the New Forest in the east. The downs on the Isle of Wight were in the far south-east. The Bournemouth balloon could be seen rising in the south with the Purbeck Hills in the distance and the Dorset Downs could be seen in the west.
