Parked at the very full Rowan Tree restaurant, hoping for a quick walk down the road and a short search. I only took my walking pole as the on lookers might have thought it odd if I walked off with the spade. However after 15 minutes prodding with the walking pole, I couldn't spot it, but had found what I thought sounded like the block which was about 5cm deep. So back to car for the spade, which I hid in a Lidl bag, well at least the end and back down the road. As I was digging I started to have a nose bleed and a big one, so I only managed to dig out just enough to expose the bolt and didn't managed to cover it up. Had to use my buff as a hanky and arrived back at car with very red hands and a very red buff, only knows what the on lookers must have thought whilst they enjoyed their Sunday lunches! As per RHW's log - 1" bolt in block 4" down, in depression. 2.9m from gatepost, 2.3 from kerb, 2m from wall. Little Chef on sketch is still Rowan Tree restaurant

Our first stop after leaving the ferry from Arran. Had the OS location sketch, but didn't need it, just took a quick look, lifted the turf and there it was!

I failed to find this in 2009. Easy now thanks to good directions and a neat piece of turf by CJO.

Easy enough find. Slightly to the south of the gate in the picture and in the "exposed keyhole view of a surface block shaped hole". Lightly filled with sand, but easy enough to dig out. Recovered to the state I'd found it in. Excellent views along the coast and across to Arran.

Guided by previous photos, I parked upstream at the Rowan Tree - the cattle were enjoying some draff.. I know the smell of a distillery mash-house! Three inches below the surface, so I've left the sandy soil covering it... bag it quick, while its obvious, before the grass grows back! ;-)

Montfode ..down below and busy roadside.
