Parked at Gravel Hill car park to the NW of the trig, then entered the field (no fence anywhere) to the N of the trig. Being late summer, the rectangular woods was completely overgrown & it was impossible to walk through it, so I walked around it. At the SE corner of the rectangular woods (circled on attached aerial pic), I entered the woods through a gap in the hedge, then there was a high fence (approx. 9' high) which had a gap in it at the same SE corner. The vegetation inside the woods was dense, I had to do a lot of chopping to get to the trig. Trig in good condition apart from the chunk missing from the corner, centrecap missing. Rear sighthole open, all other sightholes closed. I left a 2p coin in the rear sighthole for the next visitor to find.

A very pleasant walk over the Marlborough Downs finishing off with a visit to this trig, which is located within a pheasant nursery which is in itself located within a small private copse, a trespass is need to bag this one. Trig has a chunk missing from one of the top corners. Definitely no views from here, but move out of the woods and there are good views across parts of the Marlborough Downs from nearby. Car park a few hundred meters away gives good access.

The pillar stands amongst the trees inside a fenced pen in the interior of a small copse on the downs to the west of Marlborough. The copse and then the pen were entered directly from the north. The pillar lacks a cap or plug and a sizeable chunk is missing from one of the top corners. It has FB S2415. The surrounding trees prevent a view from the trig. The nearby car park is a good base from which to explore this corner of the Marlborough Downs. Nearby the Devilís Den could be seen below in the dry valley of Clatford Bottom. Sheep were grazing amongst the Sarsen Stones higher up the valley and there are fantastic views of the surrounding downland from the ridge top bridleways and byways. Part of Fyfield Down has been designated a SSSI and is a Nature Reserve.

Take the 'yellow' right the way up towards Manton House and park as indicated on the map. Enter the woods directly from the north (there's open ground now between the wood and the road). There's a track down through the centre of the wood which leads to a fenced compound designed to keep deer out. No lock on the gate! Work your way straight down the middle to the pillar.
