Day out at Arundel Castle (fantastic!) then thought we would amble down the river to visit a TP at only 1 metre (our lowest ever in 650+ TP's). Of course it turns out that the TP is not on the bank of the river but in the adjoining field and it took a good 20 minutes to walk all the way round to it on PRoW then across two fields. But a lovely evening, castle and cathedral visible in the distance, and we were disturbed - then entertained - by a muntjac deer.

Awkward to get to considering how close it is physically to the footpath beside the River Arun, about one kilometre south of Arundel. Either across a ditch or long way round following two field boundaries over gate about 200 metres before reaching the pillar. Chose latter option. Good views towards Arundel. Extra point for satisfaction of getting here, been planning it for a while.

The fourth trig pillar of my Portsmouth break. In order to reach this I walked from Ford to Arun along the river Arun. As others have reported this is not easy to get to as frustratingly it was observed the other side of a ditch too wide to jump. I managed to find a crossing place further along then had to double back through a couple of fields. Extra points for the remoteness and low altitude.

Train to Arundel for a walk taking in three trigpoints. First one, Priory Farm: walked through the Billycan Campsite; no one around, but much preparation evident for the summer season. The five-a-side football pitch has been nicely mown, and there was a football placed on the penalty spot. Well, I just had to, didn't I? 1-0. Pillar has its cap in place with shallow lettering, & one s/h open.

1st trig on day 2 of our West Sussex trig exped. Should have read the logs here before setting out - made same mistake as many others by expecting the trig to be on banks of R Arun. Backtracked along minor road to Billycan Camp Site and eventually accessed it from there - no cows present today, but plenty of evidence on the ground! Original cap in place; 1 sight hole open. Extensive concrete plinth, might be a later addition. Good views of the R Arun levee!

I managed to get into the field where brighd suggests, although this involved crawling through a rather dense thorn hedge. Once inside the field the beefsteaks were much in evidence - jumping about like banshees while they escorted me to the trig. Once I'd reached the trig they decided to stay there - guarding it from other visitors no doubt. Needless to say I visited this one on my own, Shane, Paul and Nico staying well safe on the top of the floodbank. No views to speak of, plug with indented lettering.

Spotted this while walking on the bank of the river Arun. Unreachable is a bit unfair as it is possible by going 300m further north to cross the ditch between the bank and the field the TP is in. I didn't have the time to make the total amount of detours required. Plus the TP was well guarded by a herd of cattle. Good view of Arundel to N.

A most uninteresting trigpoint. I'm with Alan Grove on this one - I approached it from the river too, but didn't have any problems with beefsteak - it was the ditch filled with water that prevented me from reaching it...and I didn't have time to renegotiate the route.

Made a complete hash of this one. Believing that the trigpoint was located on the riverbank, I approached it from the north using the riverside path. It was only when I got to within a few hundred feet that I realised that the thing was actually sited in a field and that there was no way of making a direct approach. To make matters worse, the pillar was surrounded by a herd of beefsteak. The only way to reach it appears to be from the main road. However, this is one for another day.
