No one in at farm, but one of the campers said he was sure there would be no problem in going to the trig. Through gate & straight up.

First trig on the Isle of Wight.walked to it through the nature reserve, looking for red squirrels. No luck. Asked at the house on the campsite and a very nice man told us where it was. Short walk up the hill. Nice views.

Good parking at junc roads at Queen's Bower. Took PROW NE until just after last house on RHD side (Queens Bower Cottage), then over b/w fence and across open pasture to top of hill/covered resr. Pillar in good condition, some encroaching gorse cleared; original cap in place, raised lettering; 1 sight hole open. Extensive views S & W, other directions obscured by wooded resr top.

Definitely best access from south thru' farm and campsite via gate and stile into res. compound right next to trig. I stupidly tried from north and FP network and battled right thru' the gorse encrusted summit!

Spotted this one from the road on a previous visit to the IOW, did it properly this time and called at reception. We were greeted by Mr. Eric Young who gave us a brief history of the reservoir and showed us a photograph of the gang who had built it. He invited us to bring our car in off the road. The pillar is in gorse, just behind the fence. This would be an outstanding viewpoint on a better day but distant views were obscured by low cloud.

The workforce that constructed the reservoir. Copied from the original photo by re-photographing with a small digital compact. The original is torn, but detail and condition is incredibly good for what is a 109 year old print !
Top of the pillar Someone had left a 2p coin which I placed in the centre before taking the photo. The pillar is in excellent condition, maybe the gorse and barbed wire have protected it over the years

Had a look at a couple of approaches then decided to ask at farm, farmer was really nice despite fact that I disturbed him and his son when they were working in the barn! Directed me through farmyard to pillar which is in vgc.

Well, this is it! My 1000th trig point! My Dad was born on the Isle of Wight and so it's good to be back in such a spot for an auspicious occasion! There was a gentleman in the garage of the house with the caravan park and he gave me permission to walk through the park and over the gate. The pillar is at the top of a gorse-encrusted hill but there is a stile to give access. The plug is original with raised letters - unusual for these parts. S sighthole open. Faint traces of paint. Concrete base exposed at grass level. Good views to S/W.

Visible and accessible but on private land. I tried to get permission at the farm but there was no one arround. Went through nearby field gate and walked up the hill. The pillar is in an area of gorse protected by a barbed wire fence but there ia a stile which gives access. In good condition if a little overgrown. Excellent view point. Plug has raised lettering.

We walked down the bridleway until we'd past the last house on the right then I hopped the fence (nearly losing my nuts in the process), and made my way back up to the trig. As Managra says you are very exposed at the trig so it probably is better to ask at the farm. Plug with raised lettering.

This is another trig where it would be impossible to access it without being seen by the world and his wife. The easiest access was through two gates in the middle of the farm, so we asked there. Good condition behind a barbed wire fence on top a reservoir. However, there is a stile so that you can look at the plug, which is metal with raised lettering.
