I should have visited this one 24 hours earlier. 16 degrees with excellent visibility yesterday. 10 degrees, drizzle and sub 100m visibility today! An easy trig to access and lots of sheep related activity has clearly taken place nearby. A great trig and worth visiting even if you aren't local to the area

Diverted off the M5 whilst on my way to Bude in Cornwall from The Midlands. Parked in the car park off Scratchface lane and took the short walk up the Public Footpath to and passed the trig to double back on the trigside of the hedgerow for photos. A bit blowy today, but great views in all directions. Rain caught us halfway back to the car. Did this as YSM0495 too.

This trig has been on my near-home must-visit list for some time, so decided to include it in my caching day as it is YOSM495 as well. Walked along the footpath from the west and discovered that the trig is actually on the other side of the hedge [ie not on the footpath]. However it was a simple case of climbing over the padlocked gate [checking no farmer was around] and nipping 40' or so down the other side of the hedge! Hope I am not going to get in trouble with trespassing with mentioning this! Trig in good condition, and wonderful views of Devon from both sides of the hedge but a bit too misty for superb photos.

I parked by the old barn west of the pillar and made the very pleasant and undemanding walk up the field beside the hedgerow. The pillar is in the ‘wrong’ side of the hedge but walking past it for a few yards, through the gate, do a sharp right and through another gate and you can walk back down the other side of the hedge to the pillar… all very civilised. For a change, this pillar is complete with all it’s metalwork, including the shallow engraved centre plug. The pillar is a bit grubby and the top edges have been knocked about a bit but to all intents and purposes, it’s undamaged. The views are great in all directions; a very nice location.
