I parked over the E and walked over Claverton Down, then down the path to the broken dry stone wall, from there along the edge of the high fence. Agree with the previous logs, this one has gone. There is a large pile of concrete that could be some remains. I spoke to the chap who lives at the nice house up the path from from the dry stone wall, he confirmed the pillar was removed and broken up by the current owner of the land :(

A new fence has been put in place, and the area cleared for storage of building materials. The two piles of broken concrete are presumably the remains of the pillar (one being the remains of the foundation).

Remains of the pillar This roughly matches with the photo from edfielden, and looking to the right you could see the building in the picture from OwainG.

condition only because of slight lean. Up the dirt path fromWNW till break in the wall. Then south into woodland and easy to find. this was my return route only. made mistake of assuming path was at end of tarmac road with houses on the west. this has a lean to lose iron gate and clear old sign saying private. hesitated about if this was right route but went anyway and zig zagged yup through very private grounds, uncomfortably, till at the top field where I then went north to the trig. Not a recommended route but I'd failed to notice the beginning of the path I came down, on my initial entry to park in the road.

Parked just off Widcombe Hill alongside Macaulay Buildings and walked along a fairly steep and muddy path eastwards up the hill. I left the path to the south at a break in the railings and through a woodland carpeted at first with wild garlic and - further in - fallen trees. I had to break cover to the east after 100m or so to get round some of the debris but found my way back over some broken railings to get to the pillar which has limited views now thanks to the woodland. The pillar appears to be leaning slightly to the north. Plug/top missing, FB faces E, W and S sightholes open, E sighthole plugged, N sighthole partly open.

The pillar is tilting slightly but otherwise it's in good condition. We parked at the top of Claverton Down on Copseland Road and took the footpath opposite up the lane towards Quarry Farm. At the end of the wood we crossed the pasture field and eventually found the trig just inside some broken down railings. There was adeer standing near it,and it stared at us for a while before going on its way. It is private, but not that difficult. Plug missing.
