My second visit, same heather-bash from the E as previously, clearer day than last time could see a long way N beyond Fife to the snow-clad mountains of the SE Highlands. Wonderful!

Fab views even for the always great Lammermuirs. I went up from the Gifford Road to the west of the pillar, an easy walk. The usual excessive barbed wire at the top, take a towel for safe fence jumping!

From the foot of the track that loops up onto grouse butts along Ragstone Rig, a bit of a heather bash to the fence line and then along the fences to the TP, surprisingly easy. Great views! And a special mention for the road that links Whiteadder Resr to Garvald...what a cracking wee road that is!

Bagged as YSM162 Rangely Kipp. Parked in a lay-by and walked across a false summit and down again to spot the track we should have been on. Followed the fence line up, crossed over to it onto easier track and then back towards trigpoint. Lovely white painted trig on a wee mound. Took track all the way to road and walked back up to the car. 😀

Parked in a passing place to the east of the trig and followed quad bike tracks up passed the grouse shooting butts. (We did see someone wandering about with a shotgun, but didnt hear any bangs, so thought it safe to continue) Headed for the fence line and crossed at a suitably low point, then over the heather up to the trig. Terrific views. Total of 1.25 miles in 40 mins

A 3 mile round trip to this one. Hit on the right path up through the grass field from the track from the road. Wet when I set off and this had turned to snow by the time I got back. Another chat with a gamekeeper who probably wondered what I was doing up here today. Should be good views on a fine day. Trig resplendent in its white coat.

Parked at the end of the track on the Duns - Gifford road to the south west. Followed the made track to the edge of the former plantation then quad track past the marker stone with the cut bench mark to the summit. Pillar in A1 condition with a recent paint application (thought it was still wet). Glorious late summer evening and great views particularly to the north towards the Forth and west over to the Pentlands.

One long heather bash from the E, but moor is closely managed, so not too bad. Surprised to see a 1' square-cut stone pillar close to the trig with a cut benchmark on the SE face. Looked like a grave or memorial of some kind. Couldn't read the inscription, but I think it was a name & the date 1659.

Very good condition and intact. View is very fine indeed, sadly the Mounth could only just be made out in a haze, but no problems with the Firth and the islands. Good numbers of roe deer and snipe on the hill. Not as bad a heather flounder as expected in a lovely 3 mile circuit on a day with more than a hint of spring about it.
