Up track from the B979 to the SW initially before aiming across to Wool Law. Then back to track to head round to Wellgrain Dod and then onto Coom Dod before another 1.5 km along track to bag Ravengill Dod trig on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning.

Parked in a layby off the B797 a couple of hundred metres north east from the Glencaple Farm road then past the cottage and farm (both empty) to the stoned track leading all of the way to the pillar. Presumably the track is to serve the numerous grouse butts along the route. Followed the track onto Wellgrain Dodd. No turbines on this one so a bit of a bonus.

Good condition pillar barring about 50% loss of the top screed. Cap present with sunken lettering. FB faces east-ish with all sightholes open but internally blocked. Accessed up the gouged track from Glencaple. Owners fine with parking there. Expansive views.

Pillar completed 26th June 1950, cost 30.6s.3d. Tertiary station in Block NS83, Lanark. Ascended via north slope into which a track has recently been gouged into the hill all the way up. Pillar structurally good, but the top is weathered away to the point that most of the spider protrudes. Retains OS centre plug in spider. All four sighting holes open but filled with debris. FB faces NNE ~12. Views include Dungavel Hill East, Tinto, Tewsgill Hill, Hart Fell and Green Lowther.
