Another black chip 5 digit fellow like it's near neighbour on the opposite of the Tebay hotel and M6. Had planned a quick up and down to this trig instead a glorious walk within the Parish of Crosby Ravensworth mostly, stone circle, ancient marker stones, Black Dub on that main London-Scotland road, Charles II honoured in some 19th century Royalist tribute. Heavy greys alternate with dazzling sun and cloudscapes. The view from Carrock to Yarlside a memory of previous day's superb walk. Return by the beautiful Lyvennet.

Trig in the distance A wonderful walk of small landmarks a hawthorn (and a nearby glorious sycamore) with the distant trig - they can all be seen for miles (and hours) on this walk.
Trig again in the distance (just above the stake), hours later, just before dropping down the Lyvennet

Parked by the cattle grid on the B6261 at NY 6002 0912 - by the course of a Roman road. I walked up the bridleway to the north and, where the tracks divide (at NY 5996 1026) I struck out to the NW across the heather and brush, trying to pick a route that didn’t involve too much crossing of thick heather. The fell is obviously well managed as there are patches of burnt or dead heather between the living. There are a few strange metal pyramids around the place which seem to have some trays of white grit next to them. Not sure what they’re about though! Reaching the top I disturbed several sheep who were enjoying the grass around the pillar. There is a very large cairn about 35m east of the pillar. The pillar itself overlooks a good deal of countryside - I could just about make out the North Side pillar (TP5175) 3.5 miles away - and Shap Summit on the M6. Pillar is in good nick and has a coarse stone-chip covering but is missing plug/cap; FB faces S; N sighthole open, others plugged. A cold brisk wind prevented me from staying too long at the top!
