If this had not been confirmed destroyed it would be difficult to confirm the pillar is not present in the undergrowth somewhere. This is some of the densest undergrowth i've come across. The closest i could get was 6 M from the A1 side (east), before deciding i could not climb fence. So attempts to approach from the east were tried with even less success (10M). Plant growth is so dense it is impossible to confirm nothing is there. To add to this my 1:25000 map published 2000 still shows the pillar. The OS site indicates destroyed 11/92 so thats conclusive.

Spent many minutes both on the road side of the fence, and in the inpenetrable scrub within which the grid ref lies. Closest I could get was 8m, but GPS struggling with reception in there. So dense was it that I couldn't swear no traces remain, although of course I know it isn't there anymore really.

Walked passed the site en-route to Brunton Bridge Farm trig and to be honest I just payed a cursory glance here and there as it's been previously logged as definately missing. However, since buying a current OS Explorer map (2 days later) I see it's still shown. If I'd been aware of this at the time I'd have had a more thorough look amongst the vegetation to the east of the slip road - although if iainmac didn't find it I'm pretty happy it aint there.
