Passed this trig on a walk in the summer, and couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards as it was in a poor way. So I returned with water, scouring pads,a wire brush (best tool) and 2.5l of best masonry paint. It took 3 hours to clean up,then fill the cracks, wait, then paint.Went for a long walk to keep warm! After 4 hours another coat then off to seek warmth off the hill. What a great way to spend a work rest day! Now, which ones next....?
