As I walked up the 'dead-end' lane towards the railway crossing, I could hear exciteable shouting from the nearby (hidden) Heriot Watt University's sports ground. Probably rugby, was my guess. Into the trig-containing field. Only two horses there today, and we exchanged some amusing equine banter, as I headed uphill. All fine with the pillar.

Pillar in very good condition, period features retained. Spider has original OS cap with shallow lettering. FB faces ENE towards Edinburgh Castle. Rear sighting hole open, others plugged. Horse grazing top. Entry to field is presently a muddy quagmire. I spoke to the helpful young lady who was tending the horses. She gave a me recommended route avoiding the worst of the mud. This pillar was built on 20th February 1943 at a cost of 6.10s.11d. The station was planned to be a secondary as part of the Edinburgh (NT48) network. Being west of the primary sight line between Scald Law and West Lomond this station is now classified as part of Block NT18, Dunfermline. It must have been graded a tertiary once the rest of NT18 was built. Although it is listed as T8 in NT18 it has since been promoted to secondary station status again. Photographed 18/03/2005, GRP.
