Why have I never been to Richmond Park before? Don't know. Unfathomable. But I made up for it today. On my annual visit to Craven Cottage, I visited the Park and explored it for 3 or 4 hours, criss-crossing it (under, over, sideways, down!) enjoying the red & fallow deer, and the exotic green parakeets (still haven't got used to their now permanent presence in London). This is a beautiful green space. Pillar has plastic cap, and all four s/h's open. Then on to a rocking Craven Cottage to see Fulham win 2-0. Brilliant atmosphere, lovely attacking fitba, the best I've seen in years. Dad, you'd have loved it!

Trust me to cycle along the Thames Path when there was a charity run on. Very busy and gave up and went on the road. Richmond Park was not much better. Everyone and his dog was out either cycling or driving in their cars. While the trig is on a high part of the hill there isnt much in the way of views because of the building or trees. Still a very nice morning to go for a cycle, even if it is to get only one trig! Was dry all the way back to the car but it peed it down when on M4!

I spent some 10 minutes talking to an interested passer-by about the purpose and history of the pillar and the principles of triangulation, he seemed to be enlightened. Richmond Park is well worth a visit and the view from King Henrys Mount excellent. We were astonished to find a free, unvandalised telescope available.

My meeting in London dragged on for longer than expected but I was still determined to satisfy my wanderlust so visited this trig in the dark. Fortunately my GPS has a light on its screen. Didnít see any deer out for an evening walk. The trig is next to a park road and path so access is easy.
