From Cooms Fell to the SW, second of 3 today in a 16 mile, 7.5 hour walk in which I saw 2 deer, dozens & dozens of feral goats, and zero people!

From Cooms Fell. Followed the fence line where i could, had to skirt around large amounts of deep bog and peat hags in places. Quad tracks and sheep tracks come and go all the time so a constant route puzzle through the moorland so not to break my ankle or jar my back. The extended track is not on my OS Explorer Map so that was a welcome surprise. On to Din Fell.

Parking for a couple of cars at start of track for Twislehope ( NY 4511 9679). A good track leads all the way from here to the pillar - 1km further on from the Roan Fell hill summit. I did Din Fell trig first and picked up the track at NY 4568 9511. Pillar in good condition but centre cap missing, no plug; LHD side sight hole open. Good views. Old trig/pivot benchmark a few metres SW.

From Din Fell. Headed towards the made track across tussocks and heather. Once on the track it's a fairly simple stroll to the pillar. Good long-distance views. Sadly, the cap has been taken since Aye Jimmy's visit.

Picked off whilst bagging Roan Fell Marilyn. Trig is easily reached 0.7 miles SSE of summit along rough mud/stone composite road, probably laid down for the hunting fraternity.

Visited to record FB number. This area is surrounded in peat bogs which were dry at the time of my visit. By 2000, the pillar was still in good condition. Spider retained OS centre cap with deep stamped lettering. Flush bracket faces southeast. The trig pillar stands on the Roxburgh side of the county boundary fence.
