From field gate at E corner of pasture. In thorn hedgerow; cut back some newer shoots and cleaned off the top but a saw was needed to remove overgrowing branches. Pillar has original cap in place, lightly indented lettering; rear sight hole open. Extensive views S; good E & W; N obscured by woodland.

The pillar stands near the edge of a low ridge between Langport and Taunton. It sits partially inside the brambly hedge on the western side of an unoccupied grass field. Its foundations are exposed by a couple of inches. It has a metal cap with shallow lettering and FB S3732. The pillar is encircled by a single strand of barbed wire. The field was entered directly from the adjacent minor road by the gateway in the eastern corner. From the trig the Somerset Levels can be seen to the east and the Blackdown Hills are to the south. There were glimpses of Sedge Moor through the trees to the north as I crossed the field to reach the trig; on my return a large flock of small birds passed overhead.

Directions below would have worked fine BUT me and my boy have a healthy regard (fear !) of cattle; far too unpredictable ! The field was now full of them, so we went around by means of the wood to the North of the field and snook up on it from the rear.

I agree with Glaslyn's directions but you are still in sight of View Farm to the east (the place with the decrepit barn). We had no problems though - the gate was open and the field empty (cow pasture going by evidence on the ground). FB faces east. Plug with indented lettering.

This looked awkward on my Explorer map but is quite easy when you get there,go past house on L going uphill then stop in next gateway, you can walk to pillar out of sight.
