I went up after 17:30 so I would catch a sunset …… I wasn’t disappointed ! I took some night shots too then on my way home almost had a heart attack when all the peacocks decided to start shouting as I walked past the cemetery !!!!!

Went through the gate into the trig field and it was a short walk over to the pillar. The cap was missing, and there was a decorative pink stone covering the hole left by the missing cap. A very "parky" day, especially on open exposed moorland. Nibbled a bit more off the PDBW and this trig was only 5 minutes off route. The only accessible way appears to be at the gate/stile adjacent the lodge, leave the PRoW and the trig is on open access land. A clear trod handrails a cemetery wall to a gate and the trig comes into view. Not visible from the path or road. The bearded vulture survived a summer on Howden/Bleaklow moors and last sighted going home via Leicestershire. Gifted to her safe journey.

No dogs or peacocks today either. Walked up the PRoW to the gate/stile then doubled back and walked up and parallel to the private cemetery. Pillar soon reached, though it is not visible from the road below. Another one today that is missing it's centre cap, but that aside it's in good condition. Coat of white paint still fairly decent. Pillar history: Built on the 27th of September 1938, at a cost of £4 13s 8d. Last maintained by the OS in July of 1985.

Got this one on a 12 mile walk from Denis Knoll near Stanage Edge with members of East Staffordshire Ramblers. Followed the footpath accompanied by barking hound who was on the other side of the fence. We stopped and had a chat with two ladies one of whom gave us direct instructions to the pillar. Neither of the two were indignant and were quite pleasant and chatty. On asking about the cemetery, I was told that it is now deconsecrated and there are no bodies remaining. There has been a lot of vandalism and the druggies have also been using it. She told me that the cemetery was built by a member of the Bright family and there is currently an ongoing court case regarding its future. On leaving the footpath, head east across scrub , bilberry bushes and through a broken down wall to the pillar. some traces of white paint remain and the views today were excellent.

Another last minute trip. Seemed a shame to waste such a gorgeous day indoors. Anyway I hadn't read your comments below, so I parked at the end of the Crawshaw Lodge path and wondered how I was going to scale barbed wire to get onto access land. Must have looked a bit odd, especially when a BT van stops opposite and the guy starts scraping around in the grass looking for something. Decided to investigate access through the graveyard but was interogated by the woman of the house and her very loud dogs. "Can I help" meaning "what do you think you are doing". I started to say I wanted to go through the cemetery but was met by a stream of "no" syllables. She seemed very defensive of this little spot. When I got a word in edgeways and explained I wanted to get to the far side she sent me off to the moors as if it were a deportation sentence. Off I trooped, and of course once past the gate access is simple if a little heathery. Glad to hear she can be more accommodating. Those peacocks/hens looked lovely as I huried by.

In the resulting conversation I explained the purpose of my visit and was immediately invited to go up through the cemetery and hop over the wall near the mausoleum. I was given the key to the cemetery [which now belongs to the house and is locked due to vandalism] and did as suggested. Once over the wall the trig point is easy to see and visit. Some lovely views across the Rivlin Valley. Pillar in good condition except that the plug is missing.

Bagged on a circular walk from Hathersage. Squeezed through fence east of house then up across rough moor to trig which lies on open access land. Good views to Sheffield and beyond.

Went back again (me and Pete are writing a book, so we needed the pics). Best approach is up the drive past Crawshaw Lodge, over the gate then turn back and up behind the trees. Nice peacocks at the Lodge, and a nice cup of coffee for any trigpointers who are polite and show interest in the birds! (The good lady will lock up the four dogs before you enter the garden!)

Situated on Rod Moor about 1 km north of the A57. It isn’t directly on any footpah but there is a track that leads up to Grawshaw Farm that you can use to gain access to the moor and then work your way across to the T/P. It’s complete and in good condition. It was grey and hazy when I visited but the views were good and would be better on a clear, sunny day.
