Walked to Featherstone train station, then train to Wakefield Kirkgate and train to Mirfield. Kirklees, near to where the Colne meets the Calder. Walked up Bog Green Lane then easy access to trig up path from North Moor Lane. Two horses were guarding the pillar, we startled the white one which came over but once used to us did not hinder inspection of the pillar, which had an OS plug and a blue painted FB. Too mirky for the views which would have been good over Castle Hill towards West Nab and Black Hill. Returned via Dalton Bank for an easy walk back to Mirfield via the River Colne and the Huddersfield Broad canal. Industry past and present dominates - a most rewarding day.

Only one hole open. It was nice to see OVERANOUT's explanation of the name - I was wondering how it had come by it.

This excellent viewpoint is the location of where three local parish boundaries meet (Kirkheaton, Upper Heaton, Upper Hopton and possibly Battyeford) and boundary stones indicating this can still be seen. Hence the name roundabout. Many years ago, local chapel and church members trecked on foot up to this point and had a bonfire and sang hymns, although I forget what date this was each year or the celebration.
