Parked in the little carpark opposite the north end of the red sand beach south of the trig. Someone (definitely not me) had the bright idea of going up the side of the promontory along the shoreline, then climb up to the trig. Almost defeated by slippery boulders, hostile vegetation, and a rock scramble, but managed that route (just). Came back the sane way along the track.

Approached from west. Parked on wide corner verge where track meets public road at NG810895. Followed track past houses, two gates to open, until nearest point to pillar and up SW side of hill to top. Hydrographic pillar, off plumb. Full 360° panoramic view from pillar.

We were staying in a near-by cottage, so it was a case of over the fence at the end of the garden and work my way round to the neighbouring summit. Pillar has quite a lean on it.

Log #127. Parked just off the road at 810 895 and walked up the track. Out of courtesy, I asked permission to go up to the pillar from the last homeowner. The pillar has a big lean, and with the rope around the base, it looks like someone has tried to topple it. Great views over the bay. Continued on to the adjacent P30 for views over the beach. Narrow tapering square conc pillar (leaning) with circular metal plaque on top stamped with: Hydrographic Survey Station - Admiralty London SW1 - HMS COOK 1951; central triangle without central dot; "COOK" and "51" stamped in later; usual trig symbol on 1:50k, presumably an error as another hydro pillar nearby is not included on 50k or OS trig database. I seem to recall Dave Butterfield mentioning that the large scale map (maybe even 25k) shows a fair number of these in the area. 25k shows a few Pillars e.g. NG843898 & NG799932, but not specifically marked Hydro Survey Pillar. I found a Hydro BM near Meall Tioram trig - see log. 2014 update: unusually this Hydro station was also used by OS hence mapped with a trig symbol, unlike nearby Rubha nan Sasan. There are 6 such pillars known: http://trigpointing.uk/trigs/view-trigs.php?q=1791240 I visited my last 3 this year.

25k Map This one has a trig symbol - its twin doesn't....
