Horrible rainy day but I figured that a break in the rain would give me the chance to quickly knock off this easy trig. Parked up by the cottages and waited for the rain to abate, then walked along the road and up the short distance along the FP until the pillar comes into view. Nipped through the small field and was presented with the task of crossing the moat that had been created by the deep tractor treads and then surmounting the steaming pile of manure. Fortunately by following the field edge around to the East a path to the pillar became evident. Decent views, even on this atrocious day, but Darwin Tower was obscured in cloud. Good beer afterwards at The Dog Inn at Belthorn.

Parked opposite Baron’s Fold Cottages (not Barn’s) and nipped up the track. No animals but plenty of manure so not the most majestic setting but at least it was my 99th Lancashire trig pillar in 14 months. One left to complete the full set of available trigs! 😆

Short hop up from the road. Variety of East Lancs views from the untamed Hoddlesden Moss (east), to the ever- prominent Darwen Tower (west); industrial Blackburn (north) to bleak moors (south). Did a bit of dry stone walling repairs on the nearby wall for trig bagging PR

Hmm, Is this private land? I had to climb over a wall to reach it. But it's close to the roadside so relatively easy. I visited as part of an 8 mile walk which included Darwen Moor. The pillar is in good condition and has some great views from it's location.

Easy roadside parking then through the gate and followed the foot path, carry straight on were it bends the trig is there right in front of you behind a dry stone wall, good views off in all directions, replacement centre cap fitted

Circular hike from Hoddlesden. 1 of 3 trigs bagged. Easy bag up to the trig via FP but leaving the trig, the FP is blocked so took the path to the Roman Road very close by then rejoined via a FP to Cuckoldmans. FP's are not very well maintained around this area. Trig is in good condition, but the plug is missing and filled. Views are good.

Day turned into a disaster, started off from the lay by on the main rd . Nice and easy up to the trig. Thought I'd turn it into a circular walk over Hoddlesden Moss and Grey Stone Hill. Map says a footpath to the top. Don't believe it, it's bollocks If falling into bogs and nearly breaking your ankles several times is your thing, then go for it. Turned back half way and then met angry horses, also fell in a ditch up to my knees in muddy shite. Just stick to a simple up and down and then go and bag something else guys

Walked from Darwen on a 2 trig walk, bagging this and Darwen Moor. Herd of inquisitive cows habit the same field as this trig. Was very grey and misty so not many views on my visit

From lay-by opposite Barns Fold Short walk along RoW to Trig which is situated in a meadow close to a small walled enclosure . The Trig is in good condition with a tar filled cap and all Sight Holes are open , the FB faces ~178,there are good 360 views including Ewood

HISTORY: Pillar built in February 1948 costing £8.14s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SE02/T41 in 1948. Levelled for height in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in September 1979. SITE VISIT: Approached from west. Easy parking on layby, west side of road at SD714210. Direct route onto open field via mapped RoW to southwest. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces due south ~180°. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. 360° open outlook.

Easy trig to reach from road via footpath. While crossing the penfold wall came across a mole the first time I've ever seen one see photo not the best and i left the camera on black and white! Good views good condition.
