Second trig on my Settle circular, headed over from Lancliffe pillar through superb limestone scenery. Nice chat with M'boro couple walking to Malham. Ascended from metal gate at Grid Ref given below (thankyou!). Rough moorland but not bad walking, bit tricky when wet I guess. Superb views in all directions again (can just see the sea to the West , forgot to mention Pendle Hill to South earlier! Pillar in good nick with original cap too. On to Hunters Bark after my butties. New boots first run out going well so far.

After bagging Newton Moor, I headed north via High Greet and the eccentric observation mast array to reach the final little hill top, Rye Loaf Hill. There is a stone stile in the wall directly south of the pillar - up and over and then steeply but quickly up hill and the pillar sits by a broken cairn, but with absolutely magnificent 360-degree views. The trig is in fine condition with a full set of metalwork and is a wonderful place to stop and admire the view and have a cuppa. Stunning. I headed back to Kirkby Malham via Peart Lane, which involved a bit of gill-hopping and fence-climbing - there was a proper dearth of stiles here. A dead badger, miles from any significant woodland, capped off a truly surprising day.

Poor young Brock. The only patch of woodland anywhere near didn't look sufficient for a badger sett, it was an odd place to find a dead one.

The cairn is probably prehistoric (Bronze Age). There is a hollow in the centre of the cairn: it's not clear if this was the source of the stones for the shelter, or if the centre of the cairn has been dug out in the search for artefacts, or if it's an original feature.

Snow melt and rain meant an awful muddy slog in from Newton Moor trig, especially the fields over High Langber. Visible for miles due to shape of hill which provides its name and easily reached with new stiles. Grand views across to Attermire Scar. Second one for the day, now across to Hunter Bark (already bagged Langcliffe) and back to Long Preston.

Visible and accessible. I came up from Ebor Gate whilst on a walk from Long Preston. Then followed the grass track towards the mast before veering north-east along the wall side - snow permitting - to use the two stiles indicated by SUE-C; many thanks. T'was an eeire and silent place today shrouded in mist with quite extensive patches of snow. Everything in good order with original type plug. No views today but on a good day I know them to be superb. The bonus for me was the adjacent cache!

Forget about Wainwrights route from Scalebar Force, there are new stiles on the moor that give easy access to the trig from the aerial. On the map picture, A is the unfenced & unwalled moor access point. The grassy track leads to the aerial. B & C are the new stiles and D is the location of the gate as mentioned by MAC.HAWK & ted.
