Parked on Sandy Lane at the layby to the public footpath (to the ESE of the trig), then entered the field via the gate to the E of the trig. Sandy Lane is incredibly narrow and steep! Trig is in the middle of a holly hedge, on the S side of the fence, but you can get to it on the N side of the fence too. Flush bracket faces S. I clipped the hedge a little, from the N side of the fence. Original metal cap with lightly indented letterings still in place.

The pillar sits inside a holly hedgerow separating two grass fields on a small hill near the western fringe of the Forest of Dean to the north of Chepstow. The trig was reached by following the hedge from Sandy Lane to the east. The trig stands on a broad ten inch high plinth. The spider and its metal cap with shallow lettering can be seen through the top of the hedge. The BsM flush bracket, s/3342, can be easily seen under the holly branches from the field to the south. The view to the north looks across the wooded ridges of the Forest of Dean. Some Herefordshire hills could just be made out in the distance to the north and May Hill in the north east. The wooded hills that flank the Wye Valley could be seen to the south. Gaer Hill and the Newchurch Ridge are on the skyline in the south west. The area is within the Wye Valley AONB.
