Easy to find, the masts nearby can be seen from miles around. Requires crossing a farmer's yard- nobody around to ask on my visit, but the gates were unlocked. Did have to hop the gate to the reservoir itself though, but no problems there. Lovely views in a beautiful part of the south downs.

From the Sustainability Centre (apparently used to be H.M.S. Mercury) car park, crossed the road to the South Downs Way footpath heading north towards the masts. After a couple of hundred metres the pillar is visible on top of the reservoir to the east of the masts. A little further on is a barn and yard on the right. Two gates to cross then another small gate to steps up onto the reservoir. Good views all around apart from to the west, obscured by the masts and barn. Ground a bit uneven on top of the reservoir, possibly a badger sett. A few mountain bikes along the SDW also a farmer in a Land Rover just ahead on the way up to the masts, would’ve asked but drove off out of sight.

Pillar in fenced off reservoir compound. Fence very easily crossed by this unfit, large-bellied, seventeen stone, six foot two trigpointer. Believe me, it will present you with no problems! Farm worker approached as I neared the trig - was very friendly and very chatty; knew all about the reservoir and nearby masts, but didn't know about the trapezoidal concrete obelisk. He wasn't at all bothered by my being in his field (as long as I left no litter and shut the gate), and even gave an opinion on the best place to cross the fence! A happy start to a productive trigspedition.

After completing the Meon Valley trail I walked to the TP via Old Winchester hill. Took the SDW trail, off Droxford Rd. Gentle climb to the top, the wireless masts make it easy to locate. Enter through a gate into yard, then field to find the raised reservoir platform with the pillar on top. The pillar is clearly visible from outside of a lightly fenced in area. If you want to get closer, you will need to take an easy climb over one of the metal gates. TP in good condition, with some nice views, it was starting to cloud over when I got there, but it was still possible to see my next destination, Butser Hill.
