Good condition pillar built without FB. SE-ish sighthole open only. Cap present with raised lettering. Stunning views across the Firth out to Ireland and as far north as Ben Lomond today. Accessed from the south up the windfarm track.

Accessed via Old Mill Road at top of the Avenue, Girvan before climbing directly up through rough terrain to reach Doune Hill, Fauldribben Hill and finally the Trig Point at Saugh Hill. Great views of Girvan and Alisa Craig.

A 4 TuMP ciruclar walk from Girvan that provided interesting views of this particular stretch of the Ayrshire coast, which I just so happened to have walked along 5 years ago exactly to the very day.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 12th August 1954 costing £38.4s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NX29/T21 in 1955. Levelled for height value at top of pillar also in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in June 1985. SITE VISIT: Plenty parking at side of peripheral road at NX186965. Followed footpath up to Laggan Loch then across valley to Troweir Hill and around flattish top to Saugh Hill summit. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. Built without flush bracket. One sight hole open facing 133° SE. Fantastic views out to Ailsa Craig, Mull of Kintyre and Arran.

up on the footpath from tormitchell then cut north over Troweir hill 1st then straight on to the trigpoint,dropped straight down ESE to the road at tralodden cott and last mile on the road.

Anti-clockwise route from car park S of Girvan, over Marylin Troweir Hill and nearby Yeaman twin top at Saugh Hill. Excellent views of Ailsa Craig and snow-capped Arran.

Traverse of Trowier Hill, very enjoyable... Trig is one of those plateless ones that are common around here.... Very clean and unweathered. Fine view of Ailsa Craig, Arran, Kintyre, Ireland, the Galloway hills and snowcapped Ben Lomond.
