Marking this one as destroyed as the bolt is now missing and its not, per se, a survey station. There are a few bricks left now of the pillar. Easy wander up from Braes of Foss up the path. Boulder field good fun but only because it was dry. Cloud cover from about 400m but rose up so keyhole views from the rocky summit. Excellent views on the way down.

You need to get there early to get a space in the car park. Highest trig since I started recording.

Karen's first Munro as I recall. As with my previous visit, wasn't actively looking for the TP, just the summit, so can find no evidence in any of my summit photos of rivets or rings...07/05/10 First visit, climbed with Dr Mike Read. I'd planned on Schiehallion being my 'Compleation' Munro, but when Dr Mike arrived for a visit I figured this would be a good ice-breaker for a Munro novice, and so it proved. High mark owing to great historical scientific work: gravitational experiments carried out by the Astronomer Royal Nevil Maskelyne in 1774. Schiehallion was chosen because of its very regular shape when seen from afar, hence mass of mountain could be estimated reasonably accurately. All you then had to do was dangle a plumbline and see how far it was deflected towards the mountain... by an exceedingly small angle one imagines !!
