Came in the road for a run on the motorbikes. Stopped to look at the view over Sulma Water, didn't realise how close we were to this trig. Short walk up the steep hill to the summit. Very hot with bike clothing on! Fantastic views from the site.

Parked at Fogrigarth and waited an hour and a half for a break in the showers while eating my packed lunch and drinking flask tea! Eventually a break appeared and I walked up to the pillar. FB faces SE; NE sighthole open, all others plugged; metal cap with deep indented letters (unusual for Shetland it would seem). Great views again of Papa Stour and West Burra Firth and the expanse of undulating craggy moorland towards Walls. Really quite windy on the top today.

Started from the ferry car park and zig-zagged my way up trying to keep in the lee on the east side. The wind at the top was very strong and I had to hold on to the pillar in the gusts. Low winter sun and wintry conditions gave the views in all directions terrific atmosphere - I regret I forgot my camera this day.

I’d visited Browland trig pillar earlier in the day, which I did enjoy a lot, but this one just knocked me aback with its desolate landscape of moor, crag, loch and ocean. I’d come up off the farm road and quickly reached the rugged hilltop. I was surrounded by complete wilderness in every direction, but as I finished taking photographs a group of four approached from the north. They told me that they lived in one of the nearby houses before continuing on. I wondered to myself about how the trig probably sees no-one for days and then now everybody suddenly turns up all at once. I then spent an hour or two wandering around Snarra Ness waiting for it to get dark, before passing the night in the ferry waiting room ready to go over to Papa Stour in the morning.

Cheated with this one as the Land Rover Club had a hill run that took us right up to the trig point. Weather not too good but a great evening out.
