Parked at big layby on south side of A94 opposite access to Gairdrum Cottages. Almost exactly 1 mile to the trig point, my 2nd of 6 today. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this trig point is being requested to look left, right and up as you pass the end of the runway. Today there were no planes flying, perhaps due to the windy conditions. A broken bee hive sits next to the trig point.

Had reccied this out and all seemed Ok so drove through airport and along track past Wellfield 'cottages' to the east of the runways and north until road bends. Trig less than 2 mins walk along field boundary, buried in only piece of gorse to be found in the area. Alternatively park at the airport and enjoy a 15 minute walk with the opportunity to duck as the planes take off and land.

Encroaching gorse

Walked up from St.Martin's village, and took the wide green footpath towards Scone across large fields. Beautiful open countryside with fine views; I spotted the pillar from about a mile distant, and trudged across and up a field to reach it positioned as it is close to Perth Aerodrome. Lots of small black slugs on the wide footpath:they actually looked quite attractive!

First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed 27th March 1950 costing £12.15s.1d. In 1951 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NO02/T61 in the Perth secondary block. Flush bracket S6016 was levelled for height in 1953. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in October 1986. I dodged in from the north finding no security other than a cast iron notice.
