2nd trig of the day after Staunchley Hil, did yhese kn a circular walk from carpark on Stow road. Great views over towards Melrose and to Lammermuirs, got caught in a heavy shower but soon cleared as we continued over the road to pass a couple of cairns

Second visit, same route as before, straight up from the cattle grid. Cloudless skies, exceptional views today. For reasons long forgotten I was in a right fettle last time I visited here, this was a much more enjoyable experience. Spent quiet a while up here savouring the views.

From cattle grid on B6362 to the N. After the woodland followed fenceline up on W side over good ground. Pillar sits against remains of a stone wall. Centre cap missing, asphalt plug seals the tube; front and RHD side sight holes open. Extensive panoramic views.

Parked by the cattle grid and ventured through the tree's to the gate at NT4817845406. This is no longer a gate but a piece of fencing with barbed wire across the top. You can climb over the barbed wire and electric fencing just next to this, but beware the slippery rocks. A very windy and cold walk to the trig through the snow. Another route from the car would be the gate at NT4799345559 and then to the gate at NT4796845317.

The pedestrian gate on the western edge of the wood is now tied firmly shut with baler twine. A dank walk up to the top, and the heavens opened just as we arrived. No sign of any adjacent mast now. Few views due to the mist, but would be extensive on a nice day.

Followed BigJ's route, nice easy route to the trig, and fortunately the recent dry spell meant that the mud wasn't as bad as it could've been! Decent panoramic views in all directions up at the trig. Shame about the graffiti on the spider.

1st Trig of the day. Parking at the cattle grid on the Stow to Lauder road, head up the hill crossing multiple dykes and fences, also avoiding cows. Great view from the top. Now heading for Staunchley hill just along the road.

Parked in layby beside the cattle grid. There is a pedestrian gate near the west corner of the wood where it meets the road. Followed a vehicle track right up to the trig. Fantastic views all round. With CJ.

Third visit. For GPS reading and updated photographs. Approached from north. Parked by the cattle grid on unclassified public road at NT481545. Near beeline route up slope to summit with barbed wire and electric fences to climb. Open grazing hilltop. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces north, compass measurement 5°. Vented through north and west sight holes. Open outlook to Black Hill (NT72), Eildon Hills, William Law and Meigle Hill.

parked on the road at the cattle grid- massive turning area- bloke turns up,starts setting up a massive PA system with no-one about... he tells me to park wisely as about a thousand people were due for the annual horse shin dig in about an hour... (08-00am) folks started to arrive as i set off up the hill, and when the road came into view during descent the moor was packed with cars, completely.- this was the first or second saturday in august, check local press for details! damn these new found marilyns that i forget to check the existence of

jamboree!

This one's all intact with the original plug - slightly indented letters. Quite a lot of paint on N and W faces. Very deep holes under lugs. N and W sightholes open, others closed. Concrete base visible but flush with grass and there are many large stones about. Next to a dry-stone wall and an old-fashioned aerial mast - they don't look any better than the modern ones! Good distant views all round.

Second visit. Trig pillar in very good condition. Spider plugged with hard resin. The flush bracket faces north. Open outlook to Black Hill (NT72), Eildon Hills, William Law and Meigle Hill. Open grazing hilltop, barbed wire and electric fences to climb. The trig pillar has been photographed lined up with Eildon Mid Hill, 12/04/2003, GRP.

Grim day, on the way back to Edinburgh after an early visit to Black Hill, near Melrose. Yes, after marilyns again. Lot of shooting about, I was glad of the mist. Watch out for electric fences.
